I was just watching the episode of South Park where the Internet went down and everyone freaked out. It’s funny because it is true. Our lives have become dependent on the Internet. Everything from reading Tweets to buying the food we need to live.
Imagine what life would be like if the internet went down for even a week. Besides the horror of not being able to update your Facebook status we would not be able to use the bank, buy gas or even groceries. We deny the fact that life in the United States relies heavily on the internet. It is a dangerous fault that could easily be exploited by terrorists.
Second to taking out our power grid, disabling the Internet would be a very powerful way of hurting the U.S. and even the world. It could plunge us into the stone age within a matter of days. The world is not prepared for life without the Internet.
I am old enough to remember what life was like before we were continuously connected to the rest of humanity. It was, perhaps, a better time. A time when people spoke to each other and acknowledged your existence in meatspace.
It was a completely different world. Can you imagine? Are you prepared? It can happen.
